Youth Inclusion Support Panel

The Youth Inclusion Support Panel (YISP) has been set up to support young people aged 8-17 who are at risk of becoming involved in offending or anti social behaviour, for example throwing stones, fighting, swearing, shop lifting or causing problems in the area where they live.

Referrals to the Youth Inclusion Panel
Professionals (such as teachers) can refer young people to YISP if they think that person may need a little extra support.  We currently do not take self-referrals.

We will then go and speak to the young person and the people who care for them to ask what they think.

After that, we will speak to other people about how we can work together to support the young person in the best way.  Those people could be teachers, youth workers, social care, Connexions and sometimes the police.

Family Support Plans
We will ask the young person and their family to come to a meeting called a family support meeting where a YISP officer will talk about a plan.  This could mean lots of different people coming together to make a programme of support called a Family Support Plan.  This makes sure that the young person and their family are getting the best support.

The plan will last 12 weeks and after six weeks we will look at it to see how it’s going.  After 12 weeks, if things are going well and it seems like the young person no longer needs our support, we can end the programme.

During the 12 weeks a YISP officer will work with the young person in one-to-one or group sessions to look at different programmes about, for example, victim awareness, bullying, thinking about how your behaviour affects others, and confidence building.
