Alternative Curriculum
Youth.E is an alternative curriculum programme which is run in partnership with the Warrington Youth Service, William Beamont Community High School and Extended Services.
The aim of Youth.E is to work with Year 10 pupils who are at risk of being permanently excluded from school, involved in low level crime and at risk of drug and alcohol abuse. The creation of the programme is a result of the school recognising and adopting youth work methods to engage with these disaffected young people.
Youth.E runs for two days a week at Birchwood Youth Club and delivers programmes which include:
- Informal learning
- Physical activities
- Personal challenges
- Improving key skills
- Building self-esteem and confidence
All the young people taking part in Youth.E are working towards achieving the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Youth Achievement Award and certificates in First Aid and Food Hygiene. All work and achievements have been evidenced through portfolio building and self-assessments.
There is also an ongoing gardening project for young people involved in the alternative curriculum scheme.
