Warrington Youth Council (IMPACT)

Warrington Youth Council (IMPACT) is the youth forum for Warrington and is made up of young people who want to have a say in how the town can improve services for them.

Who can attend
Any young person in Warrington can attend Warrington Youth Council meetings.  The elected members of Youth Parliament (see the UK Youth Parliament page) and their deputies should attend every meeting.

When the meetings are
Warrington Youth Council meetings are every Tuesday from 5pm to 7pm.  They are held either at the Friends Meeting House in the town centre or at the Town Hall and are overseen by two members of the youth services team.

Once a month the youth council also holds a social event.

Warrington Youth Council members also regularly meet with the Strategic Director of Children’s Services, Norma Cadwallader, to make sure the group is being listened to.

What the group does
Warrington Youth Council is an action group.  They have previously looked at issues affecting young people such as accessible and affordable public transport, bullying, recycling in schools and the council’s budget.

The strong influence of Warrington Youth Council was demonstrated in January 2007 when the group met with Norma Cadwallader and an executive council member about the intended 100 per cent increase of transport fares in Warrington.  The Warrington Youth Council group managed to negotiate a 50 per cent rise instead.

Warrington Youth Council members are even asked to interview candidates applying for important jobs at the council.

For more information about Warrington Youth Council, what is important to them and their proposals view the manifesto 2008-10.
