What is the concession?
Persons over the age of 60 can choose either:
- a National Bus Pass, or;
- National Rail Senior Citizen Railcard which entitles the holder to one third reductions in rail travel costs.
Railcards
If you qualify, your senior railcard discount will apply to:
- Standard off-peak day singles and returns
- Anytime singles and returns
- Anytime day singles and returns
- First class off-peak day returns
- First class anytime day singles and returns
- First class anytime singles and returns
- Advance fares*
- Most rail rovers
- Off-peak, super off-peak
- The weekender
- Gatwick Express, Standsted Express, Heathrow Express and Heathrow Connect services
- London Underground All Zones off-peak day travelcard (subject to a minimum fare) - please enquire locally for details
- Oyster (Transport for London) - you can get your railcrd discount loaded onto your Oyster card to save 1/3 on the daily cap on pay as you go
- Through tickets for travel on the Railair link between Reading and Heathrow Airport
- PLUSBUS - unlimited bus travel at your origin/destination station on participating operators. Visit www.plusbus.info or your local staffed station for futher details
- Some rail/sea journeys with Wightlink, Red Funnel Ferries and Stena Line

Please note that not every ticket type is avilable for every journey that you may wish to make, and that some time and train restrictions may apply. To avoid confusion, please check before booking.
If you choose to have a bus pass as your concession from the council, then you can purchase a railcard directly from National Rail at a cost of £24 per year. Vist www.senior-railcard.co.uk or your local staffed station for further details.
Is there a payment for the concession?
Bus passes and railcards are issued free of charge.
Conditions relating to the concession
- No person is allowed more than one concession at a time from the borough council (Senior citizen railcards can, of course, be purchased from a staffed train ticket office).
- A railcard cannot be exchanged for a bus pass. However, when a railcard has expired, a bus pass can be provided as an alternative to obtaining a new railcard.
- Railcards are subject to the National Rail Conditions of Carriage. When a pass is lost or destroyed, Warrington Borough Council will consider the replacement application, for which there may be a charge, based on individual cases.
- Where a bus pass is lost or destroyed a replacement bus pass can be issued on production of another passport sized photograph. There will be a charge of £5 for the first card lost and £10 for subsequent losses. There will be no charge if the pass is stolen however, a crime number will need to be provided. To obtain a replacement pass, you will need to complete the application form for a replacement bus pass/railcard.
- A bus pass can be exchanged for a railcard providing the bus pass is surrendered.
- New applicants can obtain bus passes and/or railcards at Contact Warrington, 26-30 Horsemarket St, Warrington town centre. Railcards can also be renewed at Contact Warrington.
- The evidence of identity, age and address must be provided at the time of application. All applications for a bus pass must be accompanied by a photograph not more than five years old.
- The bus pass is the property of Warrington Borough Council and should be returned to the Contact Warrington, 26-30 Horsemarket St, Warrington when no longer required.
- The bus pass is for the sole use of the person named on it and must not be used by anyone else. Any misuse may result in the bus pass being withdrawn and legal proceedings being commenced.
- The bus pass may be withdrawn or its conditions changed at any time at the discretion of the council.
- Railcards are subject to the conditions laid down by the National Rail Conditions of Carriage. The railcard must be signed by the holder before it can be used.

Where can the bus pass or railcard be collected from?
The railcard may be collected in person by the applicant, friend or relative following the completion of an application form and provision of the correct evidence from Contact Warrington, 26-30 Horsemarket Street, Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm and Saturday 9am to 1pm.
The bus pass will take 14 working days to be processed and it will be posted directly to the applicant's home address.
