Aiming High for Disabled Children AHDC

Disability 1

Aiming High for Disabled Children was a three year government funded programme that ended on 31 March 2011.

Over the course of the programme we assisted families in accessing information and support and consulted with families on service developments whilst implementing the core offer set by the government.  We assisted community and voluntary groups with grant funding to help their setting become more accessible to disabled children and young people.  We also funded specialist play and leisure activities such as trampolining for children with complex needs.

The legacy of the programme will be the sensory centre and play facility that is due to open in Spring 2012 on the site of Woolston Neighbourhood Hub.

If you would like to find out more information about play and leisure opportunities for disabled children and young people or would like to know about any support groups that may be of interest to you please contact Families Information Service on 01925 443131.

The authority has a strong relationship with Warrington Parents and Carers.  They hold regular forum meetings at which there is usually a representative from Warrington Borough Council.  Members of Warrington Parents and Carers sit on many strategy groups within Children and Young People’s Services.  If you would like to get involved with the forum, please ring 07581 302172 or visit their website.

Now that the programme has come to an end we are no longer able to produce and print the bimonthly newsletters.  We have however developed an e-newsletter that will be emailed out twice a year to anybody that has signed up to the Disabled Children’s Register.  If you would like some more information or would like to sign up to the register please email disabledchildrensregister@warrington.gov.uk.

This is the evaluation of the Aiming High for Disabled Children programme.  The report brings together the full picture from the programme and shares its successes, learning points and next steps following the end of the programme.  The final report was completed in consultation with parents and professionals.
