All Local Authority Foster carers will be subject to a Foster Carer Review at least every 12 months to monitor the care they provide and to make recommendations to maintain or improve the care provided.
The Review will be chaired by a Fostering Review Manager and attended by the foster carers and the Supervising Social Worker. The children of foster carers should be welcomed to join in part of a review meeting subject to their age and understanding to enable their views to be sought directly.
The meeting will consider the following:
- Whether the carer continues to be suitable to act as a foster parent
- Whether the household remains suitable for the fostering of looked after children
- Whether the terms of approval continue to be appropriate.
- Foster Carers views on the service provided to them, their children and the children they look after.
- Foster Carer training needs.
The Fostering Review Manager will make recommendations at the end of each review and provide copies of these to those who attend. If the Fostering Review Manager recommends that a change of approval is required then this may be referred back to the Fostering Panel.
