What type of children need fostering?
The children and young people who need to live with a foster family come from all walks of life and are of all ages from newborn to 19 years old. They have a wide variety of backgrounds, vastly different needs and a considerable range of experiences.
There are many reasons why children cannot live with their parents. Parents may be ill or going through a difficult time in their lives when they find it hard to care for their children. A parent may have drug or alcohol problems. Parents may have had difficult childhoods themselves and struggle to understand what their own children need.
In some cases, the child or young person may have been the victim of abuse or neglect. Unfortunately, this is still the most common reason children need foster care.
Almost all of the children in our care will have experienced separation, placement moves and uncertainty. Many have been let down by adults.
Due to their experiences the behaviour of children needing a foster family can often be worrying or challenging and their overall development can be delayed.
Our foster carers offer a safe, nurturing and stable home to these very vulnerable children and young people.
