Workforce development children and young people

To ensure that children and young people achieve their potential, it is important that those working within Children and Young People's Services are skilled, well-led and supported by effective, shared systems and processes. All practitioners need to be able to work together effectively to address the needs of children and young people.

The Workforce Development Strategy 2009 -11 outlines how we will work together to improve outcomes for all children and young people.

One Workforce E-learning Tool

The Children and Young People’s Partnership (formerly the Trust) launched the Children and Young People’s workforce strategy in 2010.  This strategy outlined that anyone who works with children and young people in whatever capacity is part of the children’s and young people’s workforce.

The e-learning tool will be used as an ‘Introduction’ to each partner organisation’s induction process, therefore further training should be given after completing this programme, as it will not outline individual group policies and procedures.  It has been designed for people who may have less direct responsibility for children and young people but come into contact with them regularly i.e. coach for summer sport schemes, volunteers, taxi / minibus drivers, school crossing attendants.

Everyone who is part of the children and young people’s workforce should have an awareness of the common core of skills and knowledge.  The Partnership has adopted a generic safer recruitment process and hoping this e-learning tool will provide basic awareness to improve safeguarding practice across our organisations.

The e-learning tool gives you the freedom and flexibility to learn when and where you want and at your own pace, and it will only take 45 minutes to complete.

Each partner, including voluntary organisations within the CYP Partnership has a login account. Contact your HR officer to find out what yours is then go to:

www.kwango.co.uk

Then input the following:

Username: Your name
Email: Unique email
Password:  Unique Password
Submit

It may then ask you for an area of work which will give you a ‘drop down box’ to choose from.  If you cannot find a suitable option please select ‘other’.

This will then take you to the beginning of the tool, please follow instructions on screen and start the e-learning experience.

You will be able to print off a certificate of completion, as there is an opportunity to test what you have learnt by completing a short quiz, there is also the opportunity to re-take the test if you want to improve your score.
