Phaze substance intervention scheme

Phaze substance intervention scheme

Phaze is the name of Warrington Borough Council youth service’s substance intervention scheme.

They work with young people who are affected by their own or someone else's alcohol or drug use offering support and advice providing intensive 1 to 1 support but also through group sessions and positive activities.

Working in partnership with other youth work teams they offer young people a care plan that focuses on improving self-esteem, reducing risk and limiting the problems or negative effects which substances may have on their lives.

They offer a range of activities to support informed health lifestyle choices and to improve their future life choices. These have included football tournaments, climbing, horse-riding and canoeing.

Phaze also support other agencies and professionals through the delivery of training, support with sessions and resources and keeping people informed of national trends and policies.

Who we work with

Philosophy behind Phaze

We work according to the philosophies of prevention and harm minimisation:

  • Prevention is about trying to prevent young people from starting to use drugs and alcohol.  We support them through education, advice and information to choose not to use drugs and alcohol.
  • Harm minimisation is about accepting that we cannot stop all young people from using drugs and alcohol and therefore we provide information on how to minimise the dangers.  We are not encouraging them to take these substances but to make sure they come to no harm if they do.
