The Mayor's secretary is usually the first point of contact relating to all matters regarding the Mayor, including invitations to engagements and organising major civic events.

Inviting the Mayor to an event

If you would like to invite the Mayor to attend at your event, please contact his secretary:

The Mayor and Mayoress represent Warrington at various functions/events, including:

  • local businesses
  • schools, youth centres, care homes.                    

Invitations to the Mayor are always requested in writing and should be directed to the Mayor's secretary. As soon as the Mayor has confirmed his diary, a mayoral engagement form will be sent to you in order to confirm final details. This is so that the Mayor can be fully informed prior to the event. The completed engagement form should be returned to the above address.

Speaking to the Mayor

When addressing the Mayor: "Mr Mayor"

When adressing the Mayoress (in speaking): "Madam Mayoress"

General protocol

  • The Mayor always has precedence in the borough of Warrington, except in the presence of the Queen, or Her representative
  • the Mayor and Mayoress should be met immediately upon arrival by the person responsible for the event and introduce him to the host/company
  • unless the Mayor occupies the Chair, he should be seated on the immediate right of the person presiding and the Mayoress on the right of the Mayor
  • except for an introduction, it is normal that the Mayor should be the first speaker
  • to announce the Mayor: ''The Mayor of Warrington, councillor Mike Biggin'' 
  • the correct form of address when speaking to the Mayor and Mayoress is "Mr Mayor" and "Madam Mayoress."
