Support groups

Caring for someone can be difficult and sometimes very isolating. There are various carers support groups in the Warrington area that can help.

Wired carers service Warrington
Wired carers service provides a focal point for carers, offering information, support, social and training activities, a quarterly newsletter and a free helpline. They provide a drop-in facility on Monday and Friday from 10am till 2pm and all are welcome. For further information contact the centre, tel: (01925) 644212 or 0800 7316941.

Caring for someone with a dementia type illness
The Alzheimer’s Society organise five regular dementia cafés in Warrington, where people living with dementia and their carers can go for support, information and friendship. If you are caring for someone with a dementia type illness the Alzheimer’s Society also have dementia advisors who can provide you with information, support and advice on your loved ones illness. Caring for someone experiencing mental distress
There's a support group especially for carers who support people experiencing mental distress. The group are able to talk in confidence about any concerns they may have about the person they are caring for. Carers also have the opportunity to have a one to one with the carer support workers that attend. For further information on this group contact the service, tel: (01925) 573489.

The group meets at the Allen Street day centre at 7pm and the dates for 2012 are:

LGBT carers forum/group
If you identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender and have caring responsibilities there is a service that could provide additional support for you. The online carers forum can keep you up to date with relevant news and events and also help you to interact with other carers. For some carers meeting face to face is good way of getting information and support. The lesbian and gay foundation in Manchester runs a regular carers group. Carers friendship group
The carers friendship group is an informal group which is run by carers for carers. The group is for people who have personal experience of caring for people with dementia. It aims to provide an environment where carers can see the benefits of friends who can empathise, where issues and experiences can be shared, ideas gained for new approaches and a sense of understanding and support from others in a similar situation. The group meets the third Tuesday of each month, 7.30pm - 9.00pm, at Woodleigh day centre, Callands Road, Warrington, WA5 3QD. For more information telephone: (01925) 710318 / 820004 / 265686.
