Whether you’re a life-long rugby fan or not, a successful bid for Warrington will mean a range of benefits for residents and visitors to enjoy.
From major cultural events and celebrations to more opportunities for people of all ages to get involved in rugby, we can all get involved.
Participation
Our bid aims to increase the numbers of people playing rugby league regardless of age, gender or ability. This could see the development of a schools’ rugby programme and neighbourhood touch rugby, as well as opportunities for ladies, the over 50s and within the workplace.
Volunteering
With the wide variety of activities that we are planning in the lead up to 2013 and beyond, we will need plenty of volunteers to help out. Volunteers will be recruited locally and given the opportunity to take courses in match officiating, basic first aid and a Rugby League Leaders Award. You could be helping with a musical festival, a neighbourhood rugby tournament or even as a tour guide.
Coaching
We plan to train more rugby coaches to assist with the rugby development programme that we are putting in place to celebrate the Rugby League World Cup. We will also focus on coach education - a great way for players to pass on their knowledge of the game.
Officiating
We will also need more officials to referee matches plus it’s a great way of getting involved in the game and to keep fit.
