Positive Futures is a national initiative with 91 projects all over the country. It is funded by the home office and run by charity Catch 22. Its aim is to engage young people in constructive sports, leisure and arts activities and training and not only benefit themselves, but the communities they live in as well.

Positive Futures Warrington works with people aged 5-19 years of age. It delivers sessions in all neighbourhood areas and has a variety of initiatives running throughout the year. Sessions are run on a drop in basis and participants can be referred by a professional agency or they can get in touch themselves.

Some of the different schemes we run tackle different issues that are relevant to that particular locality. Sessions will tackle issues such as:

  • Anti-social behaviour
  • Substance misuse
  • The benefits of a healthy diet
  • The importance of being active
  • Increasing employability
  • Developing personal skills and aspirations.

Currently there are 12 weekly sessions run throughout the town and there are over 250 places available to children and young people.

Volunteers play a big part in the project and we utilise as many local volunteers as possible and try to work closely with them to help their development and future job prospects.

Sessions are based in a variety of venues such as:

  • Schools
  • Community centres
  • Parks
  • Leisure centres
  • Community hubs.

The project runs training for volunteers and seeks to make them as employable as possible. Courses available include sport specific NGB awards, arts leader’s awards and generic leadership training. We are firm believers in investing in youth and try to help young volunteers to fulfil their potential as much as possible.

During holidays times Positive Futures runs day time activities within communities and works alongside partner agencies as well to provide as much provision as possible during key periods. Project Partners include:

  • Golden Gates Housing Trust
  • Participation Through Sport
  • Cheshire Police
  • Leisure Warrington
  • Frontis Housing
  • University of Chester
  • Warrington Wolves Foundation.

Current Initiatives include:

  • Girls get active
  • Youth Activity Zone
  • Lads and Dads touch rugby
  • Westy Community Youth Club with walking bus
  • Oakwood Community Youth Club.

The project will be running some new initiatives in spring 2011 including:

  • Fishing club
  • Family sports
  • Orford dance
  • Zumba
  • Golf coaching
  • Volunteer training courses.
