Situated in the old Walton Hall estate, the golf course is generally acknowledged as the premier municipal course in the north of England. 

It began with nine holes in 1971, was extended and redesigned six years later by Dave Thomas and Peter Allis, and is now a championship standard 6800 yards, with three par 3s over 200 yards long.

In a picturesque parkland setting, with fine views from the 13th tee, it boasts many mature trees and a lot of water which comes into play on seven of the holes.  The course was featured in the BBC Golf Magazine article 'The Best Courses in Britain for under a Tenner a Round', summer 1994.

The clubhouse and pro's shop are located in the converted stables of Walton Hall itself, which also features top class conference and function facilities, gardens, mini zoo, children's play area, bowling green, crazy golf and pitch-and-putt. 

It's busy at weekends when tee times have to be booked in advance.  Lessons from qualified PGA professionals are available through the shop.

Junior golf roll up sessions

Walton Hall Golf Club is currently running junior golf roll up sessions on Saturday mornings at 10am and welcomes all ages and abilities.

All attendees will work through the Golf Foundation’s ‘Golf Passport’ in a safe, fun and welcoming environment and the structured coaching programme will enable young people to learn to play and earn their golf ‘handicap’. This shall enable them to join a golf club where they will be able to play in club competitions, and take the first steps to winning The Open Championship!

Paul Hodgson, Director of Golf at Walton Hall Golf Club, said: “Here at Walton Hall Golf Club we are actively welcoming new youngsters to try golf in addition to inviting others who are looking to improve their game''. In partnership with Warrington Borough Council, we welcome all young people to come down and use the facility.

The game of golf is an exciting sport that instills many positive values in youngsters (such as cooperation, self-motivation, trust and perseverance), skills that will prove invaluable throughout life.

The cost per session for expert PGA professional tuition is just £5 and if you are keen to get your children involved in this structured learning programme or require further information, contact the golf club on 01925 263061 or email proshop@waltonhallgc.co.uk. Alternatively you can just roll up on a Saturday at 10am and give it a try.
