Plans revealed for Diamond Jubilee Big Lunch celebrations

Queens diamond jubileeWarrington residents will be able to share in celebrations to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, thanks to a grant from the Westminster Foundation.

The annual Big Lunch, which aims to bring together neighbours to share a meal at a community venue or as part of a street party, will this year coincide with the Jubilee bank holiday. The Big Lunch on Sunday 3 June will be the focal point of a series of activities across the bank holiday weekend to commemorate the Queen’s 60 year reign.

And as part of events to mark this important occasion in Warrington, the Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire, David Briggs, has announced that communities will be able to share in a grant of £10,000 from the Duke of Westminster’s charitable foundation, distributed by the Cheshire Community Foundation.

Cllr Terry O’Neill, leader of Warrington Borough Council, said:

“We want Warrington’s communities to do what they do best – come together and put on some really special events to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. The Big Lunch is all about bringing people together to enjoy fun and good food and to share in the festive spirit. We are delighted that the Westminster Foundation and the Lord Lieutenant are supporting this event and we look forward to throwing some great parties across the borough.”

A total of £50,000 is being made available across the Cheshire Lieutenancy area, which includes Warrington, Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester and Halton.

More details about all the activities planned to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee across Warrington over the bank holiday weekend of 2-5 June 2012 will be announced early in the New Year.
