Energy saving tips

  1. A shower rather than a bath uses on average one fifth of the hot water.
  2. Only boil as much water as you need in the kettle.
  3. Low energy lamps use one fifth of the energy of an ordinary light bulb.
  4. To get the most heat from your radiators fit reflective radiator panels behind them – saves up to 15% off your heating bills.
  5. Always use the plug in the sink and wash basin.
  6. Turning down the central heating thermostat by 1 centigrade could save 10% off your heating bill.
  7. Wait until you have a full load before using the washing machine.
  8. Defrost the fridge and freezer regularly.
  9. Close the curtains at night to retain heat in your home.
  10. By fitting a cylinder thermostat to your hot water tank could reduce bills by £10 - £20 per year.
