On 29 November 2010 the stock transfer took place for properties owned by the council.
If you are claiming housing benefits for the rent you pay on your council property, this will change from 29/11/10.
From 29/11/10 you will be treated as a private tenant. If you are already claiming benefit the payments normally made to your rent account will change to being sent to your landlord (Golden Gates Housing Trust).
If you are making a new claim, you will need to apply (complete the form) as a private tenant. You will need to provide proof of your rent as we will not be able to obtain this directly as we did with council tenants (see providing evidence).
You will also need to give us permission to discuss certain parts of your claim with your new landlord. If you want us to be able to discuss your claim, you will need to send us written permission for us to discuss your claim, or complete the relevant part of the application form. If not, we will only be able to tell your landlord the amounts and dates of payment relating to your claim. If you do give us permission, then we can discuss about - a claim being made, information we asked for that hasn't been returned. We will not be able to discuss personal details.
