European Week for Waste Reduction

European Week for Waste ReductionWhat is the week all about?

The European Week for Waste Reduction is taking place this year from the 19 to 27 November. The week focuses on promoting waste reduction and good waste practice activities across Europe.

We are looking for local groups to get involved in the European Week for Waste Reduction!

How can you get involved?

In order for your project to be part of the European Week for Waste Reduction it must focus on one or more of the following themes:

  • too much waste - projects that aim to raise awareness about reducing the quantity of waste we produce.
  • better production - projects that raise awareness about the measures taken by businesses and industry to reduce the amount of waste they generate.
  • better consumption - projects that aim to make the residents think carefully about their day to day choices; and think about the environment each time they buy something.
  • a longer life for products - projects that seek to remind the public that products can have a second life and can be reused.
  • less waste thrown away - projects that demonstrate different ideas on how to avoid having to throw so much in the bin.

Some ideas for actions: Waste free lunch campaign, promote reusable items, open days and information stands, craft making day from reused items and campaign to reduce paper consumption in the office.
