Reduce and reuse

How to reduce wastereduce reuse recycle

The best way to manage your waste is to follow the 'three Rs' rule:
Reduce, reuse, recycle!

We can all help reduce waste by trying to buy products with less packaging and reducing the amount of food waste we create. You can also do the following:

Many things can be reused from old furniture to clothing. Many of the bulky items collected through our collection scheme are reused. You can donate old clothes and shoes to charity shops or put them in clothing banks. St Rocco's Hospice runs a number of charity shops in Warrington that accept good quality donated items. There are also many more charity shops within the borough that residents can donate to.

Also remember to take your bags for life when you go shopping. For a free bag for life you can email your contact details to nsdwasteteam@warrington.gov.uk

reduce reuse recycleReuse network websites

There is no need to throw away your unwanted items, offer them free to someone who may use it again!

There are a number of reuse network websites of which the two below have Warrington pages:

Freegle stands for Free Giving, Locally, Easily. Warrington Freegle matches local people who have things they want to get rid of with local people who can use them - keeping usable items out of landfill.

When you want to find a new home for something - whether it's a chair, a fridge, a piano, or an old door - you simply send an email offering it to members of the local Freegle group.  If you're in need of something, you can post a request.

Another popular site is the Freecycle reuse network website.

There is also the RealCycle Network and the EcoBees websites.

The concept is based around the giving and receiving of useable items that may well end up in landfill.

reduce reuse recycleFinally if you cannot reduce or reuse any more of your waste try reducing the amount of waste we send to landfill by recycling as much as possible and this helps save energy and resources. To find out more on recycling in Warrington visit the waste management home page.
