How do I report branches of a tree that are overhanging on the highway and are posing a threat to the safety of cars and pedestrians?
We are responsible for the maintenance of 6500km of road network. Many of these roads have associated land or verges, which are deemed to belong to us. Any trees situated on these areas are also deemed to be the responsibility of this authority.
Privately owned trees or hedges or they become overhanging may create problems for pedestrians walking along the pavement or a public right of way are an obstruction. As an authority we can formally request for householders to cut them back or failing this, by law, our officers may have to step in, cut back the overgrown trees or hedges and bill the householder for the cost of the work. To report an overhanging hedge or tree obstructing the highway, please call Contact Warrington on 01925 443322 or email contact@warrington.gov.uk
