The Local Sustainable Transport Fund is a new £560 million funding pot administered by the Department of Transport (DfT). Local authorities, such as Warrington, have been invited to bid for a share of the fund.
Warrington is pleased to have submitted a bid seeking funding of £4.65 million, between 2012-2015, for an integrated package of sustainable transport improvements and behaviour change programmes.
The proposals will support low-carbon economic growth and the package includes:
- a new east-west bus service in north Warrington
- branding, marketing and promotional campaigns to support the service
- creation of an east-west ‘green’ corridor for cycling
- cycle hire at rail stations
- speed reduction measures in residential areas to support cycling
- residential personalised travel planning
- a new travel planning package for businesses, including adult cycle training
- improvements at key junctions
