What is a travel plan?
A Travel Plan is a package of measures to encourage the use of alternatives to single-occupancy car driving. Such a plan for example, could include:
- a car sharing scheme;
- improved cycling facilities;
- a dedicated bus service;
- better travel option information;
- flexible-working practices such as remote access and video conferencing.
Workplace travel plans can offer real benefits not only to the organisations that adopt them and their customers, but also to the surrounding community.
Why travel plan?
Providing sustainable travel options for employees and customers makes good business sense. It can save time, improve the environment and when associated costs like staff expenses, car park charges and fleet management costs are considered, it offers financial savings too.
A travel plan can be a valuable part of an organisation's Corporate Social Responsibility Policy or Carbon Reduction Strategy. It can also help improve an organisation's efficiency and productivity by giving employees wider travel options.
