Each year in the month of May a new Mayor of Warrington is elected during the annual meeting of full council.

A Deputy Mayor is also appointed at the same time to assist throughout the year and it is usual for the Deputy to succeed to the Mayor the following year.

Cllr Peter Carey is the 130th Mayor and first citizen of Warrington.
