Results of the review of polling districts and polling places

Following the review which was completed on 23 February 2009, information in these pages enables you to see a list of the designated polling districts and polling places and the council's reasons for choosing them.  They will now be used as the basis for selecting polling stations and administering future elections.

You can see the list of designated polling districts and places. In Grappenhall a wholly new polling district was created and a map (click here) illustrates the new boundaries. A paper copy of another map showing the location of all the designated polling districts and places can be seen at the places where the information has been published.

You can see the schedule and the joint report that set out the council's reasoning in more detail and also the minute recording the council's decision on 23 February.

You can see the representations (PDF) that were made during the consultation period by electors, political bodies and others. The Returning Officer's representations, however, are set out in the schedule.

The council discussed the proposals at length with Warrington Disability Partnership. With their permission, this organisation represented all local groups with a particular interest in the accessibility of polling places.  It also carried out a survey of polling places at the request of the council, which was used to inform its decisions. You can see the WDP reports, volume 1 and volume 2 and the correspondence that took place between the council and WDP.

Although this review has now come to an end, it must be repeated at intervals of no more than four years.

The review was carried out in line with the advice contained in Electoral Commission Circular 28/2007.

What's a polling district?

These are areas created by a division of a constituency, ward or division into smaller parts, within which a polling place can be chosen which is convenient to electors

What's a polling place?

This is usually the building or sometimes the area in which polling stations will be situated. They are decided by the council after consultation.

What's a polling station?

This is the room in the polling place where voting takes place. These are decided by the returning officer for the election and are not for decision at this time.
