'Beating the Bounds' - 6 Miles

Culcheth Linear Park

From Winwick Leisure Centre Car Park, Myddleton Lane, Winwick(1). Walk behind the leisure centre and along a tarmac path to arrive at Rectory Lane. Turn right then left at the A49 Newton Road, cross the motorway link road and round about and continue along the pavement towards the footbridge (2). Turn left along Townfield Lane passing Winwick Club and Delph Park care centre onto field paths to the side of a hedge. Follow the hedge and path as it bends right, after 15m turn left to cross a field to a wooden footpath sign (3). At the sign turn right following the obvious farm track which bends left past copse and through a field taking the right fork to arrive at a footbridge over the M6 (4). Cross the bridge and turn left by a path towards an orange gas pipe marker and a track. Turn right between 2 wire fences following the track round Peel Hall Kennels (5) and continue. The Track becomes tarmac passing houses on the right and later the left to a ‘T’ junction. Turn right then left next to the Plough Inn (6) and by the side of a concrete fence. Follow the fence and grassy path by a hedge which leads eventually up steps to join Delph Lane. Cross the road and turn left. At the bottom of the bridge ramp turn right following the dog leg track through the middle of the field to arrive at a kissing gate (7) and Winwick Lake. Turn right keeping to the side of the hedge walk around the lake to a wood walk through the wood (no obvious path), to find a kissing gate in a wire fence. Follow the path through the gate and then another turning left along the farm drive. At the road turn right. Just before the bridge railings (8) turn left crossing the road and down steps to a style through a gap in the hedge. Over the style keep to the field edge by the motorway and over a second style — continue along the hedge side to a gap and style on the right then up steps to the road and roundabout.
Turn left, then cross the dual carriage way and then right following the pavement to an M6 sign (9), turn left down steps and into the field. Turn right following the field edge for 70m before forking left to a hedge gap.
Cross the next field directly to a style and continue along field edge to join Parkside Road (10) turn left. Once past the Hermit Pub turn right down Hermitage Green Lane. Almost at the bottom of the hill turn left along a track by a concrete gate post (11) to a small copse. Turn left at the copse following the field edge to a lone elder tree. Continue between 2 fields aiming for an electricity pylon (12) and Winwick Church. Just past the pylon carry straight on short dog leg following a path by the side of an old green caravan turn a right corner by a wooden fence and follow the lane to join the A49 Newton Road (13). Turn left then left again at and through the church yard to join Myddleton Lane by the post office, continue past the school and turn right for the Leisure Centre and Car Park.
