There are many changes to benefits and taxes happening now and over the next few years. These are often referred to as the welfare reform. Changes will affect some of Warrington ’s residents to some degree, but will mainly affect those people who are not working.

Warrington Borough Council is working closely with local partners including the housing providers, Citizens Advice Bureau, Jobcentre Plus and the private sector to support local residents through the changes provide advice and guidance, and support people into work.

In the future, most new benefits will need to be applied for online. There are a number of places you can do this without needing to own a computer.

If you are worried about how the changes will affect you there are many organisations that can give you advice and guidance. You could also use an online benefit check service such as the one available on the turn2us website.

Below is a roundup of the changes that are coming from central government now, and over the coming months and years. Please note that detailed information about many of these changes is limited at present. Although some changes will happen quickly, others may take several years to put into practice. Some may also be subject to further revision at a later date.
