Update 7 April 2021
With the church hall now being set up for use as a Covid-19 test centre and the pubs reopening next week it has been decided not to press on with the road works this week or next. The contractor has carried out some works to ensure that the road is in a safe condition until they restart during the Whit school holidays to reinstate the cobbles in the section from the stocks to the access to the church car park and scout hut.
Motorists, Residents and Businesses are advised that major works to reconstruct the next sections of the cobbled road along CHURCH LANE in Grappenhall, are programmed to commence in the school holidays in April 2021 for up to 2 weeks.
Works will take place to continue the works undertaken in 2019 with the reinstatement of the cobbles in the area in front of the Parr Arms, and to take up and relay the area leading to the pub rear area and church yard as shown on the drawing.
The works will continue in the Whit and Summer school holidays to lay the cobbled road surface using the stockpiled cobbles.
During the Easter and Whit holidays the road will not be fully closed, however the areas where the contractor is working will be closed to prevent damage to the relaid cobbles.
A full road closure will be used to in the summer holidays in order carry out the works safely and to prevent damage to the works.
This work is the continuation of extensive improvement works to Church Lane to be undertaken in Phases.
Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times during progress of the works.
Vehicular access will be under the control of the contractor as directed on site.
Cones, barriers and signs are there for a reason - to protect our workers from danger and to keep the public safe. We urge drivers to pay close attention to safety when driving near roadworks.
