If you are a grandparent who looks after your grandchild, whilst their parents work and your grandchild is under 12 years of age, then you can get national insurance  (NI) credit that is attached to child benefit, transferred to you.

These NI credits would normally go the parent or main carer, but if you are looking after a grandchild (or other child relative) to help the parent work, those NI credits can be transferred to you. This could add thousands of pounds to your pension.
