Scams affect the lives of millions of people across the UK and come in many forms; uninvited contact can be received by email, letter, telephone or in person.

Trading standards

Our research has revealed that only 5% of scam victims report the scammers to trading standards. In Warrington officers are dealing with daily scam reports from residents, with each scam victim losing on average £1,012. This figure represents a collective consumer loss in the UK of between £5-10 billion annually. In our experience its not just the financial loss that victims suffer but also feelings of vulnerability which can have an overwhelming impact too. It's a scary fact that elderly scam victims are 2.4 times more likely to die or go into a care home after suffering a scam.

So, to help tackle this problem we've teamed up with the National Trading Standards Scam Team to launch the ‘Friends Against Scams’ initiative here in Warrington on 25 April. Come along and join us at the Town Hall to 'Take a Stand Against Scams' and help protect yourself, your family and friends.

We're running two sessions at the Town Hall, council chamber with tea and coffee on arrival!
