There are three swing bridges across the Manchester Ship Canal in Warrington; on the A5060 Chester Road, the A49 London Road and the A50 Knutsford Road. The ship canal and shipping movements are the responsibility of Peel Ports.
You can view details of the swing bridge openings [pdf] which shows the number of bridge openings that have occurred during certain hours of the day, and compare it to previous years. We update this every three months.

Warning signs on the road
The warning signs closest to the swing bridge are static signs that display this following message:
‘Cut engine. Cut pollution. Improve Air Quality’.
There are additional signs heading on the roads leading towards the swing bridges that have automated light up signs which only display when the bridges are closed to traffic. These signs either display a bridge symbol or a message stating;
‘Bridge swings in operation - delays likely‘.
These signs are to encourage drivers to consider an alternative route or to prompt them to switch off their engines to improve air quality and reduce fuel emissions when waiting for the bridge to re-open to traffic.
