If you want to compare charges from the past two years:
Council tax charges per parish and band 2017-18 (from 1 April 2017 to 31 March 2018)
Council tax charges per parish and band 2016-17 (from 1 April 2016 to 31 March 2017)
How are the charges decided?
Each domestic property - such as a house, flat or bungalow - is placed in a council tax band by the Valuation Office Agency (part of HM Revenues and Customs). The bands are based on what the property might have been sold for on 1 April 1991, not on today’s house prices.
Each year, the council sets the yearly council tax for a Band D property. The amounts payable for the other bands are proportions (ninths) of the Band D amount.
There are eight council tax bands, from A to H:
|Band||Range of values||Band D ratio|
|A||£40,000 and under||6/9ths|
|B||£40,001 - £52,000||7/9ths|
|C||£52,001 - £68,000||8/9ths|
|D||£68,001 - £88,000||1|
|E||£88,001 - £120,000||11/9ths|
|F||£120,001 - £160,000||13/9ths|
|G||£160,001 - £320,000||15/9ths|
|H||More than £320,000||2|
The list is compiled by the HMRC Valuation office Agency.
