Internet learning and safety

Need some help and advice on how to feel more confident using technology?  Do you know someone who needs some help to get online?

There are lots of online resources you can use, and there are courses and drop-in classes where you can pop along to ask questions, learn new skills and get more comfortable with the latest technology.  Best of all, many of them are free!

The Golden Gates Housing Trust website has a handy list of local computer courses and drop-in sessions.

Internet access

There are free computers and internet access in LiveWire libraries.

And there are many local WiFi hotspots.

Stay safe online

It is important to be safe when using the internet. The internet is constantly growing seeing the increase of online communication, entertainment, shopping and education. However there are risks that you need to be aware of and protect yourself against, though don't let that put you off getting online:

  • Ensure your passwords are private and change them regularly
  • Don’t give out your email address to anyone you don’t know
  • Use nicknames whilst chatting online, don’t give out personal information such as your full name, address details, phone number or school name
  • Don’t open and delete any emails from anyone you don’t know
