Under the Contaminated Land Regulations, published in July 2001, all Local Authorities in England and Wales must inspect land in their area for the presence of contamination, and publish a strategy detailing how to undertake the inspection process.
The council's first strategy was published in 2001and is currently being reviewed following the introduction of new Statutory Guidance in 2012. This review builds on the former strategy, records progress made in its implementation and sets future objectives and targets.
In dealing with contaminated land we're helping to prevent damage to human health and the environment as well as encouraging development on brownfield sites.
