Ordering a copy of a birth, death, marriage or civil partnership certificate
The original registers for all births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships in the Warrington area since 1837 are stored at Warrington register office. Certificates can be purchased on payment of a fee.
We can only provide certificates if the birth, death, marriage or civil partnership took place in Warrington.
Please note, we cannot produce certificates for events outside of the Warrington Borough, you'll need to contact the register office for that area.

You can choose to collect your certificate from Warrington Register Office or to have it posted out to you.
When will my certificate be ready? It will be ready to collect or posted in 2 working days
What will it cost? £10.00 (+ postage if chosen) for orders placed more than one month after the date of the event. £7.00 (+ postage if chosen) for orders placed less than one month after the date of the event.

Send a letter to us requesting a certificate at the following address: The Register Office, Museum Street, Warrington, WA1 1JX
You will need to provide us with the name(s) on the certificate, the date of the event and the location in Warrington where the event took place. You should include a cheque or a postal order made payable to Warrington Borough Council and a stamped, addressed envelope for the return of your certificate to you.
When will my certificate be ready?Your certificate(s) will be sent out to you within 3 working days of receipt of your request. When you receive your order will depend on whether you have provided us with a 1st or 2nd class return envelope.
What will it cost? £10.00 (for orders placed more than one month after the date of the event). £7.00 (for orders placed less than one month after the date of the event). £4.00 (for death certificates after Coroner’s Inquest, for three months after the date of registration)

Fill out an application form at the Register Office. You will be able to collect your certificate from the office, or you can have it posted out to an address of your choice (an additional postage charge will be payable for this service).
When will my certificate be ready? Your certificate will be ready for collection or posted out to you within 3 working days via 1st class post.

What information will I need to provide?
For birth certificates:
- full birth name of the person on the certificate
- their date and place of birth
- parents' names with mother’s maiden name (if known)
For death certificates:
- the deceased's full name
- their date and place of death
- age or date of birth
- their occupation (if known)
For marriage certificates:
- the date of marriage
- the place of marriage i.e. the name of the church, register office or other venue
- full names of both parties to the marriage at the time of their marriage
- any other names the parties had used prior to the marriage
For civil partnership certificates:
- the date of the civil partnership
- the place where the civil partnership took place i.e. the name of the church, register office or other venue
- full names of both partners at the time of their partnership
- any other names the parties had used prior to the partnership
For family history applications, the minimum information we require is the: year in which the event took place and the full name of the person(s) on the certificate. Unfortunately, if you do not supply this information, we will return your application.
Warrington Register Office cannot research for you, nor can we confirm information relating to family history research over the telephone. We will not produce a certificate which does not corroborate with information provided by you, and in such an instance you will be given a full refund of the certificate fee.
To ensure we produce a correct certificate for you it is useful for you to provide us with any additional information you may know, such as the addresses, occupations, parent’s / spouse’s names etc. Without this information we cannot guarantee to be able to produce the certificate you need. Please note we cannot offer refunds for certificates purchased without this additional information which turn out to be incorrect.
