Crèches provide occasional care for children under the age of eight.

There are permanent crèches in places like shopping centres, education and sports centres, and temporary ones, for example while parents are attending a conference or an exhibition.  The facility can only be called a crèche when it is open more than two hours a day, five days a year.

There must be a set number of staff depending on the number of children being looked after.
