Private landlords play an essential role in the provision of accommodation across Cheshire. Many of these landlords provide and maintain properties to a good standard, often above the minimum standards required by law. We want to recognise these achievements and support others to reach this higher standard. The Cheshire Landlord Accreditation Scheme [pdf] (CLAS) is a voluntary scheme developed by officers from Cheshire East Council, Cheshire West and Chester Council and Warrington Borough Council to ensure that local authority practices and landlord standards are consistent across the county.
The scheme focuses on property and management standards, particularly in relation to fire, gas and electrical safety, security, heating, repair and condition of the property. The management standards self-assessment checklist [pdf] concentrates on tenancy matters, such as the format of the tenancy agreement, rents and deposits and Energy Performance Certificates.
