Council strategy 2015-18

On 2 March 2015 the council approved its new strategy, which sets a strong direction for the future.

‘Working together’ and getting the most out of the Warrington pound is a theme that runs throughout the document, and is underpinned by the vision:

‘We will work together with our residents, businesses and partners to make Warrington a place where everyone can thrive’

The council also makes four pledges to its residents, and these will be used as a basis for making future decisions.

1)    To protect the most vulnerable
2)    Grow a strong economy
3)    Build strong, active and resilient communities
4)    Create a place to be proud of

Together the ambitious strategy and the council’s budget for 2015/16, which was also approved at the same meeting, build on strong evidence and local knowledge of Warrington.

Both documents were developed following consultation with partners, businesses, the third sector, young people and members of the community to ensure they are as relevant and focussed as they could be.

Councillor Terry O’Neill, leader of the council, said:

“We will need to save another £48.8 million in the next four years, and will have some difficult choices to make, however, this strategy gives us a strong platform to transform our services and meet the changing needs of our communities”.

Growing a Strong Warrington is the underpinning theme of the strategy and is all part of the Growing a Strong Warrington campaign launched at the end of last year.

It relies on strong communication between partners and residents to improve things locally. If you have suggestions for how the council can do things differently, whether it’s a small idea, or something that might need investment to get going, but help in the long term, email

Many residents have already taken an active interest in Growing a Strong Warrington and you can see their suggestions. Learn more about the council’s financial business ad get involved in shaping the future of your town by visiting the webpage at:
