Corporate parenting

'Corporate Parenting' is the term used to describe the responsibility of the council towards children and young people in care.  This is a legal responsibility given to the council by the Children Act 1989 and the Children Act 2004.

Warrington Borough Council is the 'corporate parent' of all children and young people in care in the Warrington area.

This means that everyone in the council  must consider children and young people in care as if they were their own children and provide services for them accordingly.

Councillors have an important part to play in overseeing the services provided for children and young people in care. They must make sure that the services that the council provide would be good enough for their own children.
