Salford City Council and Warrington Borough Council are ambitious for the people and places that they serve. Both Councils have a strong track record of innovation, regeneration, excellence and working in partnership with the public and private sectors to ensure the best possible outcomes for the local population.

We recognise that good governance and robust risk management is key to our success and an intrinsic part of this is an influential, professional and adaptable internal audit, counter fraud and risk management service. To achieve this aim our two Councils collaborate in the delivery of the internal audit and counter fraud service. We do this through a shared Head of Internal Audit, a shared counter fraud manager and opportunities for staff to work across our organisations.

We are looking for a senior audit professional, with exceptional leadership skills who can inspire others to support the achievement of ambitious plans for both Councils. The role will offer you an opportunity to lead two highly respected teams of internal audit and counter fraud officers in the two Councils; and risk & insurance in Warrington Council. You will join a fast-paced, forward-thinking and growing audit service that builds and maintains strategic relationships at senior levels across the two organisations and a number of external clients. You will lead high-performing services that are capable of responding quickly to fast-moving priorities, innovation and service development.

You will provide audit and assurance services based on a collaborative partnership between the two Councils. You will have an influential role in continuing to shape the audit and assurance strategy, with the professional presence and technical expertise to gain respect and develop relationships at all levels including Audit Committees; Members and independent Members; chief officers; stakeholders; staff; and partners. Collaboration is critical to success in this role and you will engage and inspire existing team members based within two organisations, to work together to continuously improve the delivery of the service.

With a record of achievement at a senior level, you will be a motivated CMIIA/CCAB-qualified professional. You will have exceptional communication skills and significant audit experience, preferably within the public sector or gained through relevant experience in a large and complex business environment. In responding to the pace and scale of change, you will be adaptable and resilient to work under pressure, manage conflicting priorities and respond to new challenges across a wide range of complex business activities across the two Councils. You will be able to demonstrate sound judgment and a track record of providing assurance and advice which adds value to an organisation. You will have knowledge of local government finance; be highly skilled in audit practice; and demonstrate an effective approach to risk management and counter fraud.

The role will be stimulating, fast moving and supportive, giving you the chance to use your skills and develop new ones working across two high profile organisations. In this role you will be employed by Warrington Council and be eligible to access benefits including the Local Government Pension Scheme, flexible working, and further career development opportunities.
