The role

Are you passionate about making a real difference for children and young people? We have an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to be one of 11 Residential care workers in our new children’s home.

In partnership with our health colleagues we are opening an innovative residential and outreach service for children with complex needs that aims to support children and young people to live at home and in their communities.

We are looking for an experienced and inspiring individuals who shares our passion for supporting our most vulnerable children.

The home will consist of a registered homes manager two deputy managers, a team of senior residential staff, residential care workers, wake night staff and health staff.

The home will offer outreach to families who require support to remain together as well as 4 short to medium term beds registered under the children’s homes regulations 2015.

The successful candidate will benefit from Warrington’s councils’ employees support and rewards program, competitive rates of pay. They will also be part of a group of 7 other children's homes in the authority that meet regularly with the service manager to share best practice.

What's needed?

NVQ level 3 in care of children & young people or a diploma in social care or a willingness to complete NVQ 3 within 12 months of employment.

Proven literacy skills in order to complete good quality and effective computerised care plans, reports for young people placed in home 

Experience of working with children and young people in a social care setting.

Understanding of young people’s needs and behaviours and evidence of having effectively contributed to responding to those needs to enable them to reach full potential. 

Evidence of ability to contribute effectively to a team providing high quality care in a safe and stable setting 

Experience of working in a setting where a calm manner and reflective attitude is needed. 

Proven interpersonal skills to be able to represent the interests of the home in a positive way.

Accepts responsibility and accountability for own work, understands the limits of his/her role. Is able to complete work by set deadline, seeks and uses professional support constructively. 

Evidence of effective ability to plan, prioritise and take responsibility for own workload. 

Demonstrates a knowledge and understanding of all relevant legislation in relation to young people who reside in the home / supported accommodation and are cared for by the local authority and also to have the ability to identify and respond to any learning needs to ensure all skills are up to date. 

Demonstrates a thorough understanding of the significance of safeguarding children and young people and works with colleagues to interpret this accurately for all individual young people whatever their life circumstances. 

Has a profound commitment to ensuring that the residential / supported accommodation environment is as safe as it can be; is clear about any practices which are risky for the young person and takes appropriate action to intervene.

Demonstrate effective skills in working with children and/or young people.

Evidence of good communication skills, both written and verbal which enable effective communication with a range of people. 

Can evidence good organisational and record keeping skills which enable the completion of clear, concise care plans, risk assessments and reports as required under the direction of the Registered / Supported Accommodation Manager by a set time scale.
