Whitecross Park play area is set to get a new lease of life, thanks to a £90,000 revamp.

Work has officially started on a project to transform the look and feel of the play area, and make it fully inclusive for children of all abilities. Improvements will include the replacement of existing play equipment – aimed at children aged 2-8 - with brand new equipment.

The investment will also see the play area given a ‘Sankey Canal’ theme – complete with paintings of water, canal boats, swans, fish and ducks – which was chosen following consultation with the community. The far corner of the play area – which is currently sloped down – will also be levelled.

The contractor for the scheme is Wicksteed Ltd. Work is scheduled to be completed on 28 June.

Grant funding of £50,000 was awarded by FCC Environment through WREN’s FCC Community Action Fund for the scheme, with the Council providing the remainder of the funding for the project.
