This accolade recognises LiveWire’s outstanding efforts in breaking down barriers to tennis participation and creating inclusive opportunities for the community.
Toby’s leadership over the past year has been transformative, directing the thriving Open Court programme at Birchwood.
LiveWire has successfully delivered wheelchair and visually impaired (VI) specific coaching blocks, alongside weekly walking tennis and uniquely designed Parkinson’s sessions. Toby’s approachable and dedicated coaching style has cultivated a welcoming environment, encouraging participants to return week after week.
Highlights of the programme include:
- Over 100 hours of inclusive tennis sessions delivered in the past year.
- Growing participation in year-round activities like walking tennis and Parkinson’s-specific sessions.
- Development of coaching expertise to ensure sessions are fresh, engaging, and impactful.
One regular participant from the Parkinson’s programme expressed their appreciation for Toby’s efforts, saying: “Toby’s exceptional patience can only be admired. His passion for helping others is infectious, and he always creates a positive environment for all participants. Attending his session is one of the highlights of my week!”
Cabinet member for communities, culture and leisure, Cllr Tony Higgins, said: “We are immensely proud of Toby and the Disability and Inclusion programme’s achievements. This award highlights the impact of creating accessible and welcoming opportunities for everyone to engage in sport.

With the Tennis Opened Up award secured, LiveWire’s programme will now be considered for the regional LTA Awards in 2025 - a testament to its ongoing commitment to inclusivity and innovation in sport.
