We're proposing to build a new footpath alongside Burtonwood Road/Clay Lane between Burtonwood and Omega to improve access to and from the new Omega employment site.

Approval

Approval was given by Cabinet, previously known as the Executive Board, in October 2018 to make a Compulsory Purchase Order to acquire the necessary land for this new path.

Timescales

If progress is made with the land acquisition we're expecting construction to begin mid 2020.

Funding

The cost of these works will be around £1.6 million, with contributions provided by:

  • the Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership via a successful Local Growth Fund Bid
  • a contribution from the Omega s106 Agreement
  • council borrowing

Public Inquiry

A Public Inquiry took place on Tuesday 5 November 2019 at The Base, Dallam Lane, Warrington, WA2 7NG. This considered the objections received to the Compulsory Purchase Order for the Omega to Burtonwood Accessibility Improvements scheme advertised in April 2019. A Public Notice for the public inquiry was advertised in the local press, on site and at Contact Warrington, Buttermarket Street, Warrington.

Confirmation

On 22 January 2020, the Secretary of State for Transport confirmed the Compulsory Purchase Order with modifications. A copy of the order as approved by the Secretary of State and the related Order Map can be viewed at Contact Warrington, 26-30 Horsemarket Street, Warrington, WA1 1XL between 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday to Friday (4:00 pm on a Tuesday).

A notice was published in the Warrington Guardian on Thursday 13 February. It was also erected on Burtonwood Rd/Clay Lane and also sent to all parties named in the Compulsory Purchase Order.

Implementation

The council will continue all ongoing discussions with the parties affected by the Compulsory Purchase Order and will be considering the best way to implement its powers where necessary.
