Cycle hub

Warrington Cycle Hub now officially open

The new Warrington Cycle Hub officially opened its doors on Saturday 15 June, providing a range of services, including cycle hire and storage, maintenance and pop-up events. The project will provide a real boost to cycling in the heart of the town.

Cheshire Cycles have been granted the contract by the council to deliver the hub, supported by Town Deal Funding.  Their knowledgeable team of staff will be able to offer professional support on all things cycling.

The project forms part of Warrington’s sustainable transport programme, which is delivering several projects aimed at transforming transport and active travel in the borough and making walking and cycling safer, easier and more accessible.

The new unit is based on Crown Street, in one of the units underneath the railway in the arches, or visit warringtoncyclehub.co.uk

Case Study - Lingley Mere Business Park

Lingley Mere Business Park has 2500 people from 5 companies based there, with good access from Manchester, Liverpool and Warrington the park provides a catchment of 2.5 million people within a 30-minute drive.

It’s vital that the estate management teamwork towards providing transport choices for the commuters and visitors to the business park.

The Travel Choices Team and Lingley Mere have worked in partnership providing practical support, advice and options for travelling to the park by other means than the car.

By developing and improving alternatives to single occupancy car use and promoting alternatives, the Lingley Mere Travel Plan has been very successful in meeting its objectives.

With a free to use shuttle bus linking the Park to the rail station, discounted bus tickets, secure cycle parking, led lunchtime walks and a car sharing scheme, Lingley Mere has every travel option supported.

I have worked with WBC Travel Choice team for several years now. During that time their Advisors have provided excellent advice and helped our site develop and improve our facilities for sustainable travel.

They help create and maintain our annual calendar of events which includes promotion of our Shuttle Bus service, Liftshare, Cycling and walking to work. They also provide an annual survey so that we can measure progress and listen and act on feedback from our commuting population.

Their links with local Transport stakeholders allow us to keep up with local developments and promote any offers that are available, such as a paid for visit by Dr Bike, who repairs our cyclist’s bikes and gives advice about maintenance. Our cyclists have also had the chance to try out electric bikes, provided by WBC, to see if they are an option to them, without a capital outlay.

As well as Transport the team have helped us promote local walks around the site, to encourage people to get away from their desk and exercise. This has a great benefit to their wellbeing, something that the companies on site here appreciate and encourage.

There is a small cost, but relative to the support, information and advice provided throughout the year it is a great investment in my opinion.
