We're embarking on a journey to transform bus services in Warrington, as part of our Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP). A range of work is under way between the council and local operators to deliver cheaper fares, increased reliability and high quality, accessible vehicles.

These changes are being supported by over £16 million of government funding successfully secured by Warrington as part of our ambitions to drive up the quality of bus services for all of our passengers.

A better bus service

We are now working in partnership with all local bus operators to make significant improvements that will benefit existing passengers and encourage more people to choose the bus for their journeys.

We are setting out high standards for the future of buses, including:

  • Cheaper fares
  • More frequent, punctual services
  • State-of-the-art vehicles, with the highest standards of quality and accessibility
  • Faster and more reliable journeys
  • Better on board experience for passengers

The significant improvements are part of the national strategy, Bus Back Better, which aims to modernise bus services across the country.

Our enhanced partnership to transform services

As part of our funding agreement with the government, we have formed an 'enhanced partnership' with local bus operators to deliver real change.

Bus priority projects

As part of our plans to improve the reliability and punctuality of bus services, we are currently looking at a bus priority project on the A49 Winwick Road. A public consultation was undertaken in November and December of 2023.
