First approved as a Fairtrade Borough in 2006 Warrington has maintained the status for 17 successive years. The Warrington Fairtrade Steering Group applied for a new certificate, which was awarded by the Fairtrade Foundation, in recognition of the continuous support of many sections of the community, across Warrington.

Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Steve Wright, said: “Fairtrade has an important part to play in making our world fairer. It enables farmers in developing countries to have a stable income and gives them with the opportunity to trade their way out of poverty.

“In Warrington, we’re committed to maintaining our Fairtrade status but can only do so due to the hard work of the Steering Group and Fairtrade Champions promoting ongoing support for Fairtrade across the borough. This includes the promotion of the wide availability of Fairtrade products in local shops and catering outlets, along with high levels of support from local people, businesses, faith groups and schools.

“You can help us build on the good work done so far by getting involved with the work of the steering group and by buying products that carry the Fairtrade Mark. Together, we can continue to support producers in developing countries.”

One of the Steering Group's main aims is to raise awareness of the huge difference we can all make to the living standards of producers in developing countries, simply by regularly buying goods that carry the Fairtrade Mark.
