Warrington Borough Council is continuing to process thousands of applications for the Government’s council tax energy rebate – and there’s still time to apply.

Applications to the scheme will close on Monday on 8 August – so if you are eligible for the payment and have not yet received it, you should apply to the council now.

All those who complete their application before the deadline should receive their £150 payment by the middle of September at the latest.

The council tax energy rebate payment was introduced by the Government to help households with rising energy bills. The rebate, which does not have to be repaid, is available to anyone residing in properties in council tax bands A-D.

The council has already automatically paid the £150 to all Warrington households who pay their council tax by direct debit. However, those who do not pay their council tax by direct debit and wish to claim the rebate need to complete an application form.

Any households who haven’t applied for the rebate by 8 August will be sent a cash voucher in the post which can be redeemed at the Post Office. The council expects to issue these vouchers between 15 August and 30 September.

Additionally, if you requested, before 18 July, that the £150 be credited to your council tax account, your £150 has now been credited and your next/future payments have been reduced accordingly.

Warrington Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for finance, Cllr Cathy Mitchell, said: “We’ve paid out the council tax energy rebate to thousands of residents and we are continuing to work hard to process payments as quickly as possible.

“If you are eligible and haven’t yet applied, make sure you do so by 8 August. And if you have older relatives or neighbours who may not have yet applied for the rebate, please offer your help and support so we can make sure they get the money they are entitled to.”

To apply for the rebate, visit warrington.gov.uk/rebate, which provides a range of information about the payment. Here, you can complete the application form, which asks you to provide:

•            Your council tax reference number

•            Postcode

•            Surname

•            Bank account details, if you want the £150 to be paid into your bank account

It also recommended that you provide an email address, so you can receive a confirmation email when your form has been submitted, and so the council can contact you if any further information is required.

If you have tried to complete an application form and are experiencing issues – or for any other questions about the rebate – please email 2022energyrebate@warrington.gov.uk
