The council has pledged its support for the Peace In Mind campaign – a scheme established by Brianna Ghey’s mother, Esther, in partnership with the Warrington Guardian.

The Peace In Mind campaign has been set up following the death of 16 year old Brianna Ghey in February this year. The campaign aims to raise funds to deliver mindfulness in schools training to teachers in schools across Warrington, who in turn can use their learning to provide support to pupils.

It is hoped that by offering mindfulness in schools training to teachers, pupils will have increased access to wellbeing support, with mindfulness also cited as an effective way to support concentration, emotional development and behaviour in the classroom.

Cllr Sarah Hall, cabinet member for children’s services, said: “We’re very pleased to be able to support this fantastic campaign led by Esther and the Warrington Guardian, in memory of Brianna.

“The Peace in Mind campaign is an important initiative that will help to provide additional guidance to our teachers, who in turn will be able to provide more support to Warrington’s pupils.

“Teaching mindfulness in schools will bring big impacts and benefits for both our teachers and young people, and we’re therefore very pleased to be able to play our part in supporting this truly ground-breaking campaign.

“As a council, we will continue to look for opportunities to support this initiative.”
