Scheme Detail

From Monday 30 September 2024 works will be taking place on A57 Manchester Road, Woolston from east of Redwood Close to east of Riversdale.

All works/closures will take place between 7:00pm and 1:00am Monday to Friday nights (Saturday morning) for up to 8 weeks to undertake the works safely.

For the first two weeks of the scheme works will take place with temporary traffic signals or narrow lanes, whilst the contractors install a raised bus boarding point, install chambers and ducts for traffic sensor loops and upgrade the existing dropped pedestrian crossing on Weir Lane with new kerbs and tactile paving.

Road closures are programmed to commence from Monday 14 October 2024, and weather permitting it will take 4 to 5 weeks to complete the resurfacing element of the scheme, which will also include resurfacing at the end of Weir Lane.

The works will include the reconstruction and realignment of the existing pedestrian island in Weir Lane and may also include a new pedestrian island on Manchester Road to the west of Weir Lane, which may the first part of further pedestrian and cycle improvements in the area.

All roads will be fully open to traffic outside the working times.

Vehicular access will be under the control of the Contractor on site.

Vehicles parked on the road, verge or footway obstructing the works may be removed.

The signed diversion route will be via Woolston Grange Avenue, A574 Birchwood Way, A50 Orford Road, A50 Orford Green, A50 School Road, A50 Long Lane, A49 Winwick Road, A49 Lythgoes Lane and vice versa.

Information on bus diversions will be posted at stops ahead of the start of the scheme.

Residents/businesses needing access to closed sections of road should speak to the contractor as they will provide as much access as is safe to do so, however there will be times, for example when the road surface is being removed or relaid when there may be no access for several hours.

With regard to residential access, when the works are at the Riversdale end of the scheme traffic will need to come and go from the town centre direction, and when the works are at the other end of the scheme then all traffic will need to go out via Woolston Grange Avenue, etc.

Cones, barriers and signs are there for a reason - to protect our workers from danger and to keep the public safe. We urge drivers to pay close attention to safety when driving near roadworks.
