Each year, before making any change to its scheme of councillors' allowances, the council must seek, and take into account, the recommendations of an independent remuneration panel.

A notice outlining the panel’s recommendations and the response of the council is published each year.

Following the meeting of the Full Council on Monday 17 June 2024, Elected Members agreed that the scheme be extended for a further year from May 2024 to May 2025 as per the Independent Remuneration Panel’s recommendations.

Council members agreed the following as per the panel’s recommendations:

  • The basic councillor allowance for 2022/2023 be increased in line with the CPI figure of 6.2%, in line with the February 2022 figure, for the period 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2023 to the sum of £9,329.67.
  • The basic councillor allowance for 2023/2024 be increased in line with the CPI figure of 10.4% in line with the February 2023 figure, for the period of 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024. £10,299.96.
